- You + Family
Eligible dependent children include unmarried children up to the end of the year in which they reach age 19, or through the end of the year in which they reach age 25 if enrolled as full-time students at an accredited institution. Eligible dependents include natural children, stepchildren, foster children dependent on you for support and maintenance, an eligible same-sex domestic partner/civil union's eligible children, legally adopted children, and legal wards.
Proof of Dependency
When you enroll your eligible dependents, you may be asked to provide appropriate legal documentation (e.g., a copy of your marriage certificate, same-sex domestic partner/civil union certification, or your child’s birth certificate, adoption papers, legal guardianship papers, etc.). Legal guardianship documentation must show you are financially responsible for the support of the dependent. Custody of a child alone does not qualify for dependency.
PSEG reserves the right to periodically request proof of your dependents’ continued eligibility for coverage, including copies of your Federal income tax return. Failure to provide true, accurate, and complete information to a request for information could result in the denial of benefits and, if determined to constitute fraud, may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment. Attempting to cover an individual who is not legally your dependent is a form of fraud that may result in disciplinary action. If you are not sure a dependent is eligible for coverage, remember: As a guideline, with the exception of an eligible same-sex domestic partner/civil union, you must be eligible to claim the individual as a dependent on your Federal income tax return.
