For medical, prescription drug, and dental coverage, dependent children are covered until the end of the year in which they turn age 19, or until the end of the year in which they turn age 25 if they are full-time students at accredited institutions.

For medical and prescription drug coverage, as a result of PPACA, adult children can be covered to the end of the month they turn age 26 under their parent's medical and prescription drug coverage only (not dental coverage). Adult children are those children who previously were not eligible to be covered under the PSEG plan because of their age, student status, or marital status. For any questions, contact Benefits Express at 1-800-571-0400.

Eligible dependents include natural children, stepchildren, foster children dependent on you for support and maintenance, an eligible same-sex domestic partner/civil union's eligible children, legally adopted children, and legal wards.

If your spouse or eligible same-sex domestic partner/civil union works for a PSEG Company, he/she cannot be covered as a dependent under your medical coverage; and you cannot be covered as a dependent under your PSEG spouse’s or same-sex domestic partner/civil union's active/retiree medical plan. You must each enroll in the medical benefit program for which you are eligible. In addition, only one of you may cover your dependent children.

If you cover your spouse or eligible same-sex domestic partner/civil union under the Medical Benefits Program and your spouse or partner is eligible for medical coverage under another plan (for example, through his or her employer), you’ll pay an additional $500 surcharge annually toward the cost of your coverage. This surcharge will be made through automatic before-tax payroll deductions.

Proof of Dependency

When you enroll your eligible dependents, you may be asked to provide appropriate legal documentation (e.g., a copy of your marriage certificate, same-sex domestic partner/civil union certification, or your child’s birth certificate, adoption papers, legal guardianship papers, etc.). Legal guardianship documentation must show you are financially responsible for the support of the dependent. Custody of a child alone does not qualify for dependency.

PSEG reserves the right to request proof of continued eligibility for your dependents at any time. Failure to provide true, accurate, and complete information in response to such a request could result in the denial of benefits. If the enrollment of such an individual is determined to constitute fraud, you are subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.
